Bike Transport Guide: How Two-Wheeler Transport Actually Works

Sending a bike from one city to another is routine work, but the actual process — what gets drained, what gets wrapped, what you sign — is rarely explained clearly. This guide walks through how two-wheeler transport works end to end, so you know what to expect whether the bike is going from Karimnagar to Hyderabad or further, to Bengaluru or Chennai.

How bikes are actually transported

There are three common ways a bike moves between cities in India, and each suits a different situation. A single bike moving alone is rarely worth a dedicated vehicle — it usually travels alongside other bikes or as part of a household shifting load.

• Any existing scratches, dents or paint chips photographed before wrapping, so the condition is on record before the bike is touched

Securing the bike: chocks and straps, not rope

A bike is secured upright using wheel chocks that hold the front wheel in place, combined with soft nylon straps run through the frame and handlebar to the vehicle floor or wall anchors. This keeps the bike stable without any strap or rope pressing directly on the fuel tank or bodywork.

Condition photographs at both ends

Take clear photographs of the bike from all four sides, the fuel tank, the odometer reading, and any existing damage before it is loaded. Do the same again at delivery, before signing anything. This is the single most useful habit for avoiding disputes — it gives both sides a clear, dated record of the bike's condition at pickup versus delivery.

Documents you need to hand over

• Registration Certificate (RC) — original or a clear photocopy, as agreed with the transporter
• Valid insurance copy for the bike
• A government photo ID matching the name on the RC, for both booking and delivery collection
• PUC certificate copy, useful to have on hand though not always checked at transport

Keep the originals of these documents with you rather than in the bike's tail bag or under the seat — carry them yourself and hand over only the copies the transporter needs for their records.

What to remove before handover

Treating them as a single combined item is where confusion usually starts at delivery, since it becomes hard to tell which scratch belonged to which bike.

• Ask for a separate line item and photograph set for each bike, even when they travel together
• Keep RC and insurance copies for each bike in separate envelopes, not mixed into one folder
